The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian University (SSANU) Federal University Lokoja branch has appealed to federal government to pay their backlog of two months salary arrears, wage award, promotion arrears among others.
This was contained in statement signed by the chairman of SSANU Federal University Lokoja chapter and made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Wednesday.
The association expressed concern over the shortfalls in the January, 2025 allocation to federal universities in the country, lamenting that the shortfalls has resulted in many universities not able to pay the right salaries for the month of January.
“This is unacceptable because the shortfalls has puts undue financial strain on our members who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of our institutions.
“We call on the federal government, federal ministry of education, and federal ministry of finance to fast-track the passing of the 2025 Budget to address these issues and ensure that adequate funding is provided for federal universities.
“It is imperative that all entitlements of university staff such as promotion arrears, minimum wage arrears, wage award, and two months withheld salaries, are released without further delay to guarantee industrial harmony.
“Our members are dedicated professionals who continue to give their best despite the economic challenges facing the country. It is only fair that the government reciprocates their hard work and commitment by fulfilling its obligations and releasing their entitlements in a timely manner ” the statement said
