Ahmed Haruna (Ciroma), one of the children of late Sarkin Sasa and chairman, Council of Arewa Traditional Rulers in the 17 Southern states of Nigeria, Haruna Maiyasin Katsina was on Sunday unanimously nominated as the new Sarkin Sasa by family members and traditional councils of the 17 Southern states of Nigeria.
Haruna was nominated after a meeting by the family members and the traditional councils of the 17 Southern states of Nigeria, few hours after the late Sarkin Sasa was buried at his residence in Sasa community, Ibadan.
It was learnt that a committee has been set up at the meeting to convene the nomination of the new Sarkin Sasa to the Olubadan of Ibadanland before turbaning him.
Sources said the new Sarkin Sasa is expected to be turban at the seventh day fidau for the late leader.
It was gathered that over 100 leaders across the 17 Southern states of Nigeria were at the meeting for the selection and they reached a compromise on the new leader.
The speaker of Arewa Traditional Rulers, Suleiman Rabiu, while speaking after the meeting said, “Leaders across the 17 states were in attendance during both the burial ceremony and meeting to nominate the late Maiyasin successor.
“Yes, we have nominated Ciroma, one of the late leader’s children. Other children and over 100 leaders across the southern states were in attendance during the exercise,” he said.
Rabiu added: “Even before this, we have tutored them (children) that others must support whoever becomes the next Sarkin Sasa. And he must not turn himself to beggar. He shouldn’t be using the seat to extort money from people.”
