Source — Buccaneers’ Mike Evans to undergo MRI on hamstring

TAMPA, Fla. — Buccaneers Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a left hamstring injury in Sunday’s 29-27 win against the New York Jets and is set to undergo additional testing.

“So far it’s a hamstring tweak. I have not gone in to see the final details yet,” coach Todd Bowles said after the game.

A source told ESPN that Evans will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the severity of the injury.

Evans was hurt with 6:25 to go in the fourth quarter. Lining up against Azareye’h Thomas in man coverage, he took just a few steps before turning his body toward quarterback Baker Mayfield in anticipation of a throw and pulled up. Evans limped to the sideline before taking a knee in frustration. He knocked over a watercooler as he walked to the locker room, then threw his helmet in the tunnel.

Evans has battled hamstring issues in the past, missing three games last year and three in 2019 due to injuries to his right one.

He had four catches for 33 yards and a touchdown Sunday before sustaining the injury.

Evans, 32, is the only player in league history to record 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first 11 seasons, and he is tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the most consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in NFL history (which he could break this year).

So far this season, Evans has 14 catches for 140 receiving yards and a touchdown.

The Bucs have been without Pro Bowl wide receiver Chris Godwin, who is working his way back from ankle surgery, and wide receiver Jalen McMillan, who suffered a neck injury in the second preseason game and is not expected to return until after their Week 9 bye.

When asked about the possibility of Godwin returning this week, Bowles said, “We’ll see how practice goes. We’ll see. It’s too early to tell.”

Rookie Emeka Egbuka played against the Jets despite hip and groin issues entering the game and had six catches for 85 yards, including a 28-yard reception that set up Chase McLaughlin‘s game-winning 36-yard field goal.
