Soludo Must Act: Intersociety Demands Justice For Slain Citizens

1 week ago 27

ENUGU – The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has called on the Governor of Anambra state, Professor Charles Soludo, to take immediate action regarding the gruesome murder of three defenseless citizens by the newly established Agunaechemba Vigilante Group.

According to Emeka Umeagbalasi in a statement made available to Journalists in Enugu, the Board “Governor Soludo, who prides himself as the Human Rights Governor must publicly condemn the April 6, 2025, murder of Malachy Chimaobi Iwuanyanwu, Odinkalu Chinonso, and Kosisochukwu in Owerre-Ezukala, Orumba South LGA “

Umeagbalasi emphasized that Soludo’s condemnation of the murders is not enough; he must also visit the families of the slain citizens, apologize openly, and offer adequate compensation.

He said “Furthermore, the Governor must ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice and that measures are taken to prevent such incidents from happening again”.

The Intersociety chairman expressed concerns over the operational activities of the Agunaechemba Vigilante Group, which seems to operate above the law.

“Despite the AVG Law 2025 designating the Nigeria Police Force as the controlling authority, the outfit has been accused of indiscriminate arrests, killings, torture, and destruction of properties,” he added

Umeagbalasi stressed that Governor Soludo must take immediate action to address these concerns and ensure that justice is served.

He said “The people of Anambra State are waiting for the Governor to rise to the occasion and prove his commitment to human rights and the rule of law”.

The Intersociety has urged the Governor to thoroughly investigate the activities of the Agunaechemba Vigilante Group and hold accountable those responsible for the atrocities committed.

“As the Human Rights Governor, Professor Soludo has a responsibility to protect the rights and lives of his citizens. The people of Anambra State are watching, and the international community is waiting for his response.

“The Intersociety will continue to monitor the situation and demand justice for the slain citizens and their families”.

Umeagbalasi thereby emphasized that Governor Soludo must act swiftly to address the concerns raised by the Intersociety and ensure that justice is served saying “The people of Anambra State deserve nothing less”
