Flamingos captain Shakirat Moshood has been shortlisted among the last three contenders for the 2025 CAF Women’s Young Player of the Year.
Shakirat Moshood led Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team at the World Cup in Morocco in October, where she earned praise for the way she carried the squad on and off the pitch.
Although the Flamingos fell out in the Round of 16 under coach Bankole Olowookere, Moshood’s performances were one of the bright sparks of Nigeria’s campaign.
Her progress has also been shown clearly at the club level. The forward delivered a strong season with Bayelsa Queens and played a part in their successful push for the Nigeria Women’s Football League title earlier in the year.
Moshood now finds herself up against two strong rivals for the award. Last year’s winner, Moha El Madani of Morocco, remains a favourite, while Senegal’s Adji Ndiye has also been recognised for her impressive rise.
Nigeria also secured another spot on the CAF Awards shortlist. The Super Falcons have been named among the finalists for the Women’s National Team of the Year after a solid year that reaffirmed their status as African champions.
They will compete with Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses and Ghana’s Black Queens for the top honour.
