Sevilla FC have officially terminated the contract of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, originally set to expire on June 30, 2026, by mutual agreement.
The 28-year-old, who signed with Sevilla as a free agent from Leicester City last summer, struggled to secure a regular role at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán Stadium.
Iheanacho made 15 appearances in the first half of the 2024/25 season, scoring three goals, before being loaned to Middlesbrough in January.
At Middlesbrough, he contributed one goal and two assists in 15 matches but failed to secure a return to Sevilla’s plans, missing the matchday squad for their opening three league games this season.
Sevilla confirmed the departure, stating: “Sevilla FC and Kelechi Iheanacho have agreed to terminate the Nigerian striker’s contract, following his arrival from Leicester City last summer.”
Iheanacho is now heavily linked with a move to Scottish champions Celtic, where he could reunite with former Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers.
His next step is critical as he aims to regain form ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the Africa Cup of Nations.
