Senator Sunday Katung has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, stating that his decision was driven by a desire to serve the people of Kaduna South more effectively.
In a statement posted on his đ handle, @smkatung, and dated October 31, 2025, the lawmaker described the switch as âa most difficult, but ultimately necessary, decision.â
The statement, titled âA New Chapter: A Message of Unity and Purpose,â explained that his choice came after weeks of âdeep consultations with constituents, critical stakeholders, family members, friends, and political associates.â
âThe past few weeks have been incredibly demanding yet profoundly reflective moments of my public life,â Katung wrote. âDuring this period, I have engaged in deep consultations⊠regarding a most difficult, but ultimately necessary, decision: my decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress.â
According to him, the move was motivated by âa genuine desire to serve our people more effectively and ensure that our voices are heard and respected at the highest decision-making tables where the destinies of our communities are being shaped.â
Katung added that his defection was influenced by calls from âvarious segments of our constituency urging us to consider this move,â while acknowledging the âspecial interestâ President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani have shown in partnering with him to bring âphenomenal and epoch-making developmentâ to the region.
He revealed that Daniel Amos and several members of the Kaduna State House of Assembly also joined him in the defection, describing the APCâs presence in Kaduna South as evidence of âa genuine commitment to inclusion, equity, and progress.â
âThe era of marginalization and exclusion, particularly in our recent past, is being replaced with purposeful governance and partnership,â he said. âWe are moving, therefore, to ensure that these gains are not only sustained but replicated in many more communities in the zone.â
The senator urged his supporters to remain united and to avoid letting political differences strain personal relationships.
âAs Thomas Jefferson wisely said, âI never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, or in philosophy as cause for withdrawing from a friend.â Let our relationships going forward embody that same spirit of mutual respect and enduring friendship,â he wrote.
