Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is set to distribute locally assembled electric vehicles to over 100 constituents, with a focus on empowering women, as part of her annual constituency empowerment programme.
The initiative, described as her “ritual” of giving back, aims to boost local enterprise, enhance mobility, and promote sustainable development in Kogi Central.
The project took shape two weeks ago when Senator Natasha, accompanied by her husband, visited the office of Udensi Bernard, whose team is overseeing the assembly of the electric vehicles.
“She said, ‘I want to empower my people with electric vehicles,’” Bernard recalled, noting that the senator insisted on using vehicles manufactured and assembled in Nigeria.
Since then, efforts have been underway to prepare the selected models for distribution.
The programme, set to be unveiled soon, targets women, farmers, and small business owners, offering them vehicles that promise reduced fuel and maintenance costs while promoting cleaner energy.
“For farmers, they make it easier to move produce to markets. For business owners, they cut logistics costs. For transport operators, they increase profits while reducing dependence on petrol and diesel,” Bernard explained.
Beyond economic benefits, the initiative seeks to raise awareness about renewable energy, inspire youth innovation, and support Nigeria’s shift toward sustainable technologies.
“Senator Natasha’s initiative is a visionary step toward a cleaner, smarter, and more self-reliant Nigeria,” Bernard added.
Since resuming her senatorial duties after a six-month suspension, Senator Natasha has prioritized her constituency’s needs, with this programme marking a significant step in her commitment to sustainable development and empowerment.
The official unveiling of the vehicles is expected in the coming weeks.
