The Senate has fixed Wednesday for the confirmation of appointments of Chief of Defence Staff , Lt – General Olufemi Oluyede and the newly appointed Service Chiefs .

Senate’s decision to screen and confirm appointments of the top military officers followed requests made to that effect by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in two separate letters to the President of the Senate , Senator Godswill Akpabio .

President Tinubu in the letters separately read during plenary by Akpabio , hinged his request on section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act cap  A 20  Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and sought expeditious consideration.

Accordingly Akpabio after reading the requests , referred them to the committee of the whole and announced Wednesday this week as for that .

Recall that President Tinubu had on Sunday , appointed the former Chief of Army Staff , Lt – General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff to replace  General Christopher Musa in that capacity .

The President also appointed Major – General Waidi Shaibu  as the new Chief of Army Staff , Air Vice Marshall S.K Aneke as the new  Chief of Air Staff and   Rear Admiral  Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff.
