Saudi Arabia pledges to sustain medical support to Nigeria



The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed commitment to strengthening its historic ties with Nigeria through boosting the media assistance being rendered by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre.

Khali Al-Admawi, Consular General of Kingdom in Northern Nigeria, gave the commitment last week Friday, when he, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf received the conjoined twins from Kano State that were successfully separated through the intervention of the King Salam Centre.

The arrival of the separated babies the conjoined twins, who were taken to Saudi Arabia about two years ago, was said to be one of the interventions that the Kingdom is providing countries that it has historic ties with.

Admawi disclosed that the two Nigerian conjoined twins, Hassana, and Husaina, who recently underwent a successful separation surgery in Saudi Arabia, had returned home reception at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

He noted that the lifesaving operations was carried at the King Abdulah Specialist Children Hospital in King Abdulaziz Medical City, Riyadh, under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al -Saud, and the government of the Kingdom.

According to him, “Hassana and Husaina had traveled to Riyadh in October 2023, where they underwent months of comprehensive medical examinations. Doctors discovered that the twins were joined at the lower abdomen, pelvis, and spine, sharing vital structures that made the case particularly, complex.”

He said that after careful planning, a multi -disciplinary team of 38 consultants and specialists, including experts in pediatric surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedics, urology, anesthesia, and plastic surgery, embarked on delicate procedure.

Admawi stated that the surgery which unfolded in nine stages, lasted approximately 14 hours, noting that each of the stage required precise coordination to safely separate the twins and reconstruct their individuals’ systems, and that the separation has been described as the most successful, in the

“The program has become one of the most prominent medical humanitarian initiatives globally, showcasing Saudi -Arabia `s expertise in the pediatric surgery and its dedication to supporting vulnerable families”, he further stated.

Speaking after a while, receiving the babies, Governor Abba said the State Government would provide adequate health care for them, and ensured that the subsequent Government would be advised to continue with Government’s support for the babies.

He commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the various supports that it has been providing to the Kano State and Nigeria in general, requesting that the bilateral co-operations between the two nations be sustained.
