Sardauna foundation disburses N200m scholarship to indigents students


 

The Sardauna Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has commenced disbursement of 100,000 scholarship to 200 Students from the North 

Speaking at the formal flagging up of the screening and the disbursement of the Scholarship at Counselling and human development service Unit, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria on Tuesday,the foundation’s Director General, Engineer Abubakar Gambo Umar,  said the programme was a yearly activity in which 10 students from the 19 Northern states, Federal capital territory inclusive each are invited for screening for the scholarship 

He said one the criteria used by the  foundation in the selection process was that the applicant must be a 200 level student and has no lower than 2.50 CGPA in 100 level examination.

He noted that the beneficiaries were mostly from the low income families that could not pay their school fees for one reason or the other.

“Our Sponsorship will run from 200 level up to graduation unless the CGPA of beneficiary drop.

“I want use opportunity to solicit for more support from groups and Individuals especially the political class to enable us expand the scope of the scheme for the betterment of students from low income families.

Earlier when the foundation team, led by Madakin Zazzau, Alhaji Muhammad Munir Ja’afar, paid him a courtesy visit in his office shortly before the exercise, the Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Professor Adamu Ahmed Ningi, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (administration), Professor Ahmed Doko, appreciated the foundation for sponsoring poor students.

He noted that there were a lot of Students who hardly pay their school fees because of the present economic hardship.

The Vice Chancellor called on the foundation to maintain the tempo.
