Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has set a remarkable pace in advancing Lagos State’s infrastructure and socio-economic development. Recently, his administration commissioned 29 roads in just seven weeks, including the strategic Chief Yesufu Abiodun Oniru/Akiogun Road, which offers an alternative to the Admiralty Circle Plaza and eases traffic congestion in the highbrow Eti-Osa.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s infrastructure agenda is anchored on ensuring every corner of Lagos benefits from improved connectivity and transportation. Beyond the recent road projects in Eti-Osa, Victoria Island, Kosofe, Ifako-Ijaiye, Alimosho, Ikeja, and Amuwo-Odofin, among others.

The Governor, speaking during the inauguration, emphasized that these infrastructure projects are part of his “Greater Lagos Rising” agenda, which is anchored on inclusiveness, mobility improvement, and economic development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that every part of Lagos benefits from his infrastructural drive. He announced plans to open an additional 15 to 17 routes currently at advanced stages of completion, extending the benefits of his infrastructural push to areas such as: Badagry, Kosofe (Phase 2), Agege and Ibeju-Lekki

The Governor emphasized that the infrastructural projects are designed to enhance social mobility, improve journey times, and boost the quality of life for residents, irrespective of their socioeconomic status or location within the state.”No matter your economic power, no matter what part of the state you are in, it is our goal to leave no one behind,” he declared.

The significance of the newly commissioned Yesufu Abiodun Oniru/Akiogun Road cannot be over-emphasized.   It is more than just a thoroughfare. It serves as a vital alternative route to the Lekki-Epe Expressway, which is notorious for heavy traffic congestion. This new road, among other things, will  further ease traffic flow around the Lekki Phase 1 and Oniru axis, reduce travel times for commuters and businesses in the area, boost economic activity by providing easier access to commercial hubs and also raise property values along the corridor.

Additionally, the project is part of a broader vision of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu-led administration  to decongest Victoria Island, which is a key business and residential district in Lagos.

It is imperative to stress that the ongoing infrastructure push in Lagos under Governor Sanwo-Olu has had far-reaching impacts beyond traffic decongestion. The rapid completion and commissioning of multiple road projects are stimulating local businesses and attracting more investments. With improved road networks, businesses can transport goods faster, and real estate values are rising in previously underserved areas.

The construction projects have equally created thousands of jobs, providing opportunities for artisans, engineers, and local contractors. Additionally, local communities benefit from the increased business opportunities that come with better road infrastructure.

Likewise, the new and rehabilitated roads are equipped with streetlights, proper drainage systems, and pedestrian walkways, significantly improving safety for motorists and pedestrians. Commuters also experience shorter travel times, boosting productivity.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s road projects are part of a broader urban renewal plan aimed at making Lagos a more livable city. The projects complement ongoing initiatives such as the ambitious  Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, which will further open up the state, and other southern sub-national entities  to commercial opportunities.

In recognition of the visionary leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, for their relentless commitment to infrastructure development. According to Daramola, the project is a strategic component of the infrastructural regeneration of Victoria Island and aligns with the government’s vision of creating a well-structured and highly accessible road network across Lagos State.

“The benefits of this road rehabilitation are multifaceted. Beyond significantly reducing travel time and improving road safety, it will enhance the overall commuting experience while positively impacting property values and economic activities within this corridor,” Daramola stated.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made it clear that his administration is determined to push through every infrastructural project as a means of improving the livability and economic viability of Lagos State. His vision, as expressed in the “Greater Lagos Rising” agenda, will impact all parts of the states, touching all critical sectors of the economy.

There are also several landmark projects that have reshaped the entire landscape of Lagos State, under Governor Sanwo-Olu. The Blue Line Rail, a signature project, was delivered by governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration. The completion of the long-awaited Blue Line Rail from Marina to Mile 2 marks a new era of mass transit in Lagos, reducing travel time and offering a sustainable alternative to road transport.

Lekki Regional Road is another critical project that exemplified the government of Governor Sanwo-Olu. This project eases congestion on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, improving access to the rapidly growing Lekki/Ajah corridor.

Pen Cinema Bridge, completed by the governor, provides a vital solution to Agege’s traffic gridlock, this bridge has significantly cut travel times for residents.

Lastly, the ongoing Opebi–Ojota Link Bridge bears testament to creativity and innovative-driven government of the Sanwo-Olu government. The project, when completed will decongest one of Lagos’ busiest road networks, ensuring smoother connectivity.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to infrastructure, education, healthcare, and technology has redefined Lagos’ development trajectory. His resolve to ‘leave no one behind’ ensures that every resident benefits from these transformative projects. As his administration continues to tackle the challenges of a mega-city, Sanwo-Olu’s legacy of leadership, vision, and progress remains a beacon of hope for Greater Lagos.

No doubt, the administration has made a strong commitment to improving the lives of Lagosians. His ability to balance speed, quality, and inclusiveness in infrastructure delivery is setting a new standard in governance.
