Sam Onuigbo Calls For Greater Investment In Women As Pillars Of Stability

The Member Representing The South East On The Board Of The North East Development Commission (NEDC), Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has called on the government to increase investment in women, describing them as the pillars of stability in Nigerian homes and communities.

Speaking through his representative, Abraham Osondu, at the 31st Annual August Meeting of the Obuohia Obi-Ibere Development Union (ODU) Women’s Wing, held in Obuohia Obi-Ibere, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State on Saturday, Onuigbo emphasized that women play a central role in fostering peace and harmony within society.

According to him, women have become custodians of peace through strategic coalitions they formed to support men in community development. He noted that without their interventions, many homes and communities across Nigeria would have faced deeper crises.

Onuigbo also highlighted that several abandoned community projects were revived through the united efforts of women, demonstrating their strong commitment to progress.

He further stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains committed to the peace and security of every part of Abia State and Nigeria at large. He praised the wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, for her dedication to mobilizing women across the state towards sustainable development.

Commending the women of Obuohia Obi-Ibere, Onuigbo acknowledged their impact on the local economy, stressing that despite being predominantly farmers, they have contributed immensely to grassroots empowerment and economic growth.

In his remarks, the National President of ODU Men’s Wing, Chiedozie Atuma, urged the women to ensure their children stay away from criminal activities in order to safeguard the future of the community.

Also speaking at the event, the National Coordinator of ODU Women’s Wing, Mrs. Gloria Nwabuike, revealed that the women have successfully addressed challenges such as school dropouts, maternal health issues, and drug abuse among youths. She noted that these achievements were made possible through seminars and sensitization programs organized in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Ministry of Health, and other government agencies.
