Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has returned to first-team training and could be in contention to face Manchester City in Sunday’s top-of-the-table Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.
The 23-year-old has missed Arsenal’s last three matches in all competitions after suffering a hamstring injury during the Gunners’ 5-0 win over Leeds United on August 23.
His recovery is progressing faster than initially expected, raising hopes of an early return in a crucial fixture.
Boost for Arteta’s squad
According to a report from the BBC, Saka’s potential availability would be a significant boost for Mikel Arteta, who is aiming for a third successive victory following wins over Nottingham Forest and Athletic Club.

The England international had started the season strongly, scoring against Leeds before being forced off.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is also working his way back to fitness but is less likely to feature against City.
The Norwegian midfielder sustained a shoulder injury in the 3-0 victory over Forest and is expected to require more time before returning to action.
International absence
Saka’s injury also ruled him out of England’s recent World Cup qualifying matches against Andorra and Serbia earlier this month.
If cleared to play, Saka could be eased back into the side rather than risk aggravating the injury.
Arteta has previously stressed the need to manage the winger’s workload carefully, given his heavy involvement in recent seasons.
City’s winning form
Arsenal face a City team arriving in north London on the back of consecutive wins over Manchester United in the Premier League and Napoli in the Champions League.
Pep Guardiola described the Gunners as one of Europe’s toughest opponents earlier this week, adding further weight to the encounter.
A final decision on Saka’s involvement is expected closer to kick-off.
