Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Monday that it has “neutralised” a man accused of planning terrorist attacks on the Moscow metro and a Jewish religious institution in the Moscow region.
According to the FSB, officers attempted to arrest the suspect, but he resisted, prompting security forces to open fire. He was fatally shot in the exchange. The agency did not disclose the suspect’s identity or further details about his background.
The FSB reported that the suspect had intended to carry out attacks in Moscow before traveling to Afghanistan to join a terrorist group. However, authorities did not specify which organisation he was allegedly affiliated with.
The Russian security agency has heightened counterterrorism efforts in recent years, citing threats from extremist groups both domestically and internationally.
