Ruben Dias has committed his long-term future to Manchester City after signing a new contract that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until at least 2029.
The Portugal international’s previous deal was due to expire in 2027, but the extension secures his stay for another two years, with the option of a further 12 months. The new agreement means Dias could spend close to a decade at City, having joined from Benfica in 2020 for £65m.
Success and leadership
Since his arrival, the 28-year-old defender has been instrumental in City’s dominance under Pep Guardiola. He has won four Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the EFL Cup, while also being named Premier League Player of the Year in his debut season.
City’s director of football, Hugo Viana, hailed Dias as “a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch,” underlining his influence beyond just his defensive contributions.
Dias: “City is my home”
Expressing his delight, Dias said:
“I am incredibly happy today. I love Manchester – it is my home now – and I love the Manchester City fans.
When I think about the trophies we have won and the way we have played our football during my time here, I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.”
Focus turns to other contracts
With Dias’ future secured, City are expected to prioritise new deals for John Stones and Bernardo Silva, both of whom have just one year left on their contracts. Ilkay Gundogan and Ederson are also entering the final 12 months of their current deals.
Meanwhile, Rodri, Phil Foden, Manuel Akanji, and Nathan Ake all have two years remaining, while young defender Rico Lewis is close to signing a new five-year agreement.
