Ruben Amorim is acting stupid – Ex-Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi digs into Manchester United boss

Ruben Amorim has not impressed since he took over at Manchester United last November….

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi has expressed his frustration at Ruben Amorim rigid approach at Manchester United, Soccernet.ng reports.

The Red Devils have not really impressed much since the start of the season. Despite spending around €200 million on attacking reinforcements during the summer transfer window, they have struggled badly.

Manchester United have picked just two wins from their first six games and have lost three. They were also knocked out of the EFL Cup last month by fourth-tier Grimsby Town.

Amorim, who has been in charge at the club since November 2024, has come under fire for the club’s performances. His abysmal record of 17 losses in 33 Premier League games has not help led his cause.

Over the past few weeks, there have been calls for Amorim to tweak his 3-4-3 setup, to at least salvage something.

However, the Portuguese man has remained adamant and has stuck with his current lineup.

One of those who believes that Amorim should be a bit flexible is former Super Eagles captain Mikel.

Mikel spent most of his playing years at Chelsea in the Premier League, and he thinks Amorim is now bereft of ideas.

“I thinks he’s a good manager, but I’m not sure about the system he wants to use at Manchester United,” Mikel said on the Obi One Podcast.

I played under some of the best managers during my playing days, I studied them, their mentality, and how they approach games.

Ruben Amorim was losing at Brentford, and I expected him to change things up, but he stuck to his three at the back, why?

“The problem is way too much for him to deal with, he can’t fix the problem. His energy is affecting the players.

“His refusal to even change his lineup is not stubbornness, it is stupidity. Top managers adapt, look at Pep Guardiola for example.

“Now, when teams come to play Manchester United, they know how to prepare. When Manchester United are losing, he needs to switch things, change formation,” the former Chelsea man concluded.

If the results continue to go against Manchester United, there is a good chance that Amorim will get the sack soon.
