RSIEC Declares APC Winner In 20 LGs, PDP Wins Three

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) announced the results of the Local Government Area (LGA) chairmanship elections held on Saturday.

The results declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners in 20 of the 23 LGAs, marking a significant victory for the party across the state.

Meanwhile, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured wins in just three LGAs, including Obio-Akpor, Port Harcourt City (PHALGA), and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni (ONELGA).

He said, “The elections were conducted transparently, and we urge all stakeholders to respect the outcome and maintain peace across the state” .

The elections produced several notable results. Abua-Odual was won by APC’s Ofori Owoalabi, who secured 28,755 votes, while Khana went to APC’s Bariere Thomas with 156,027 votes.

Obio-Akpor was captured by PDP’s Gift Worlu, who garnered 328,823 votes, and Port Harcourt City (PHALGA) went to PDP’s Allwell Ihunda with 235,054 votes.

In a surprising turn, Governor Siminalayi Fubara lost his Opobo-Nkoro LGA to APC’s Jame A. Jame, marking a significant political shift in the state.

The PDP’s limited victories signal a shift in the political landscape of Rivers State, as APC now controls the majority of local government chairmanship positions.

Dr. Odey added, “It is imperative for all parties to work with the elected officials to ensure the smooth delivery of governance and avoid any conflict” .
