6 days ago 16

The Royal Iwere Foundation has collaborated with Junior Achievement Africa and Junior Achievement Nigeria to offer entrepreneurial skills training to students from various secondary schools in the Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The training program took place on Monday at the palace of His Royal Majesty, the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, and attracted numerous dignitaries, including the principals of the selected secondary schools.

In her address at the event, titled “Set4LYf,” Her Royal Majesty Olori Ogiame Atuwatse III emphasized the importance of this partnership in empowering young people, particularly girls, with the skills necessary for workforce readiness and economic development.

She explained that being “set for life” means being equipped with the tools for success. “Through this program, we aim to empower girls to transform their communities and contribute positively to the economy, regardless of their backgrounds,” she stated.

Olori Atuwatse III further asserted, “Our fundamental goal in collaborating with Junior Achievement Africa through Set4LYf is to prepare the women of tomorrow today. Every girl, no matter her origin, deserves the chance to chart her own path.”

She urged the students to take the program seriously, viewing it as an investment in their futures, as many already aspire to become successful individuals.

The royal figure reassured the young women that they could achieve their goals, regardless of their familial circumstances, as long as they make informed choices. “After this program, you could become the CEOs of organizations that make a difference, uplifting and transforming the lives of those in your community,” she remarked.

She expressed her appreciation to Mrs. Simi Nwogugu, CEO/President of Junior Achievement Africa, and Ugonna Achebe, Executive Director of Junior Achievement Nigeria, for launching the program in Warri, alongside previous initiatives in Abuja and Kogi State. She also recognized the contributions of the secondary school principals for enabling their students’ participation.

In their speeches, both Mrs. Nwogugu and Mr. Achebe encouraged students to take the program seriously, emphasizing its potential to turn them into successful entrepreneurs. They highlighted the importance of technological skills in today’s world, noting that those who drive innovation in various fields are just like them.

Other speakers included Honourable Orode Uduaghan, Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Girl Child Development, and Lady Diana Ereyitomi Eyo-Enoette, Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The training program involved selected students from seven secondary schools: Dore Numa College, Dore-Dom-Domingos College, Hussey College, Uwangue College, Delta Model College, Nana Model College, and Yonwuren College, all in Warri. The event concluded with a question-and-answer session and group photos.

The five-month entrepreneurial training program will resume tomorrow, with all stakeholders eager to enhance the students’ knowledge and skills.
