Rohr Expects Ikeme To Be Fit For 2018 World Cup

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr, is hopeful that Carl Ikeme will be fit to represent Nigeria, if they qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper was diagnosed with leukaemia few months ago, during a routine medical with the English Championship.

Although Rohr has reached out to Vincent Enyeama who retired from international football, he still remains optimistic that Ikeme will be part of his squad in the nearest future.

According to the Franco-German coach, Ikeme is responding positively to treatment and if all goes according to plan, he will definitely be in the Nigerian team for the World Cup.

“Carl Ikeme is recovering well and the team believes he will be ready if the Super Eagles qualified for the World Cup,” he said.

The Eagles need to avoid defeat against Zambia next month, to confirm their place in next year’s tournament.
