A gang of robbers, who burgled a residence in Madalla town in Niger State, on Monday morning, escaped after tricking security guards, who came to rescue attacked households in the area.
A resident, Umar Usman, said the attackers arrived at the compound around some minutes to 5 am.
He said, ‘’As some of them were making efforts to break into my apartment, I raised an alarm, shouting thief, thief, which attracted some security guards from nearby.

‘’Two security guards rushed in to render assistance only for one of the robbers to point toward a direction, saying that the robbers had fled.

‘’In the process, they left through our gate and shot into the sky, which made the security guards retreat,’’ Usman added.
One of the security guards, Gabriel Joseph, said he and his colleague ran toward the main road, where they sighted a car coming and immediately four members of the gang that attacked the compound joined them and zoomed off from the area immediately.
Gabriel said the matter was yet to be reported to the police in the area.
