Nigeria’s CAF Champions League hopefuls, Rivers United, have been drawn in Group A, alongside defending champions Pyramids SC, Morocco’s RS Berkane and Zambia’s Power Dynamos in what appears to be one of the tournament’s most competitive pools.

The group stage draw was conducted on Monday afternoon at the SuperSport studios in Johannesburg.

This marks Rivers United’s first-ever appearance in the CAF Champions League group phase, an achievement for the Port Harcourt-based club.

Rivers United make historic breakthrough

Under the guidance of Finidi George, the team advanced to this stage after overcoming Mozambique’s Black Bulls 3-1 on aggregate in the second preliminary round.

Pyramids SC, the reigning champions from Egypt, will be the favourites to top the group, while RS Berkane, one of Africa’s most experienced sides, are still chasing their first CAF Champions League crown.

Power Dynamos, who last reached the quarter-finals in 1985, will also look to make a strong impression on their return to continental competition.

Rivers United will now aim to defy expectations and secure a place in the knockout stages against some of Africa’s most formidable clubs.
