Rivers Resources Mismanaged, Ex-Sole Administrator Ibas Should Be Probed – Okonkwo

Nollywood actor and lawyer Kenneth Okonkwo has called for a thorough investigation of the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Ibok Ekwe Ibas.

Okonkwo made the statement on Monday, during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels Television.

Okonkwo criticized the state of emergency imposed in Rivers State, arguing that it allowed outsiders to make critical decisions about the state’s governance.

“Strictly speaking, let me say this to Rivers people and every other state in Nigeria.

“They should learn from this. When you are disunited in your state, strangers will be brought in to siphon your resources,” he said.

He emphasized that the emergency measures were unnecessary, as all those involved belonged to the same political family.

“This state of emergency in Rivers State was uncalled for. All of them were from the same political family, whether Wike or Fubara. So it was unnecessary.

“They should learn and every other state should learn,” Okonkwo added.

The actor-lawyer pointed out that key decision-makers during the emergency were outsiders to Rivers State, including President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and House Speaker Abbas Tajudeen.

He also listed the Chief Justice of Nigeria and Sole Administrator Ibas among those who were unfamiliar with the state but involved in critical decisions.

“Have you noticed that all the people that decided the destiny of Rivers State in this period of state of emergency were all strangers. And they have come to siphon the resources of Rivers State.

“N22bn was budgeted to put CCTV in the State House in Rivers; Ibas should be probed,” he said.
