Rivers Police Arrest 48-Year-Old Over Defilement Of Minor


Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 48 year old man for allegedly defiling a 12 year old girl in Port Harcourt, State capital.

In a statement on Monday, by the spokesperson of the Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspect, one Emmanuel George committed the crime on September 6, in Ada-George area of Port Harcourt.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect allegedly dragged the victim who was on errand for her guardian, to a seclude area and forcefully defiled her despite her plead for freedom.

Iringe-Koko stated: “On September 6, 2025, at about 1930hrs, operatives of the Rivers State Police Command attached to the CP Strike Force, Port Harcourt, received a distress call reporting that a 12 year old girl (name withheld) who came to spend the holiday with her aunt at Mini Orlu, off Ada-George Road, Port Harcourt, had been defiled”.

She said “The victim, who had been sent by her aunt to buy some fried potatoes along the street not too far from the house, was unfortunately attacked by one Emmanuel George (48), a native of Akwa Ibom State but resident at Rumu-Evolu Road, off Ada-George Road, Port Harcourt. 

“The suspect dragged the victim into a stationary tricycle, popularly called Keke Napep, tied her hands, covered her mouth to prevent her from raising alarm, and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her before fleeing the scene.”

The police spokesperson disclosed that operatives were mobilised to the scene of incident, where the victim was promptly taken to the Police Hospital, Port Harcourt, for medical treatment and examination. 

The suspect it was stated, was apprehended through coordinated intelligence, while exhibits including “a bundle of rope suspected to have been used in tying the victim’s hands, one wrap of ‘fufu’ and a blue tricycle”, where recovered from the incident scene.

Iringe-Koko continued that during interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, adding that he is currently in police custody while discreet investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Olugbenga Adepoju, has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring that perpetrators of crime in the state face the full wrath of the law. 

He urged parents and guardians to keep close watch over their children and wards, noting that “such predators are within our neighborhood and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security agencies”.
