Indications have emerged that immediate past Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, is being questioned by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at the Abuja headquarters as part of the on-going probe into refinery maintenance during his tenure.

There have been calls in some quarters for the investigation and prosecution of Kyari following a petition submitted to the EFCC on April 25, 2025, accusing the former NNPCL boss of misappropriating billions of dollars during his tenure.

Blueprint.ng  correspondent reports that Kyari, who had been placed on EFCC watch list after the Federal High Court Abuja gave an order against him, was said to have been invited by the commission to clarify issues surrounding financial transactions relating to the refinery maintenance.

Federal High Court Abuja had given order to freeze four Jaiz Bank accounts linked to the GMD following allegations of fraud and money laundering.

An operative of the anti-graft body, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed his presence at the EFCC, noting that Kyari arrived the EFCC office at about 3pm, but was not in the position to give further details.
