Earlier in the day, Ladoja received the traditional Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound, Oja’ba, Ibadan, in line with Ibadan traditional rites.
Oba Ladoja is expected to be formally presented with the staff and instrument of office by Governor Seyi Makinde at the historic Mapo Hall.
According to the Punch, Makinde cut short his annual leave on Thursday to personally attend the event.
Speaking shortly after his coronation, the new monarch described the moment as historic for Ibadanland.
“This is not just about me but about the heritage of Ibadan and the continuity of our cherished traditions,” Ladoja stated.
“He added that his reign would focus on unity, peace, and progress for the people.
Governor Makinde also reaffirmed his government’s support for the new Olubadan, saying: “Today marks a new chapter in Ibadan history. Oba Ladoja’s wealth of experience as a former governor will strengthen the traditional institution and foster greater development in our state.”
Ladoja’s ascension follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on Monday, July 7, 2025.
The coronation was attended by prominent traditional rulers, clerics, political leaders, and residents who gathered to witness the historic event.
