The North East Development Commission (NEDC) Wednesday distributed Ramadan palliatives to 1,900 displaced households and persons with disability in Yobe state.
The distributed food items include rice, macaroni, cooking oil, and spaghetti.
Presenting the food palliatives to the beneficiaries in Damaturu, the managing director of the NEDC, Mohammed Alkali, stated that the 1,900 beneficiaries comprise households affected by the Boko Haram insurgency or identified as vulnerable ahead of the Ramadan season.
Represented by the NEDC Yobe state coordinator, Prof. Ali Abbas, Alkali stated the commission’s commitment to supporting the Yobe state government’s efforts to alleviate the suffering of people with special needs.
“The Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Mairo Amshi, will receive these items on behalf of the Yobe state government.
“Meanwhile, the chairman of the Yobe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities and representatives from local governments will proceed to their respective destinations to distribute these items to direct beneficiaries in Gaidam, Yunusari, Bursari, and other areas,” Alkali said.
In her remarks, the Yobe state Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr. Mairo Ahmed Amshi, thanked the NEDC and its state coordinator, Prof. Ali Abbas, for their collaboration with the state government.
She praised their hard work, attentiveness, and efforts they put into streamlining aid delivery through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
The chairman of the Yobe State People with Disabilities Commission, Usman Bura Gabai, described the day as historic, noting that people with disabilities were prioritised and entrusted with food items tailored to local needs.
“They were asked to produce a list of beneficiaries for these items. I assure you, that the list provided today will be honoured. I will ensure these items reach the intended beneficiaries, inshallah,” Gabai stated.
