Ramadan: NEDC Distributes Food Items To 1,900 Vulnerable Yobe Households

Ahead of Ramadan fasting , the North East Development Commission (NEDC) have begun distribution of food items with 1,900 beneficiaries across 9 pilot LGAs of Yobe State. The NEDC State Coordinator, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, made this known while handing over the items to state government officials in Damaturu.

Abbas said the distribution targeted displaced farming communities affected by Boko Haram insurgency as well as Persons With Disabilities across the state. He added that the support was carried out as directed by NEDC’s MD, Mohammed G. Alkali, as part of the commission’s efforts to support the Yobe State Government to alleviate the sufferings of most vulnerable populations.

He said, “We are here today on the instructions of the MD NEDC Mohammed G. Alkali, to symbolically hand over food items to 1,900 direct beneficiaries affected by Boko Haram insurgency especially as we are today approaching Ramadan. “The NEDC’s management feels that the Yobe State Government needs to be supported in its efforts toward alleviating peoples’ suffering.”

Commissioner, Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr Mairo Amshi, expressed gratitude to the NEDC for the timely intervention. She commended the NEDC’s team for the hard work and for fostering a strong working relationship with the state government through the ministry.

Ms Amshi said, “We thank the commission and its management team for the hardwork and listening ears and facilitating cordial relationship with the state through the Ministry of Humanitarian affairs.’’ She further handed over the food items to the Chairman of Yobe State Commission of Persons with Disability, Alh. Bura Gabai, for onward distribution.

In his remarks, Alh. Gabai thanked the NEDC for the support and acknowledged the Yobe State Government, under Governor Buni, for establishing the Commission of Persons with Disabilities. In their separate remarks Executive Secretary SEMA, Focal Person NEDC and Executive Chairman of Yusufari on behalf of other LGAs, appreciated the Commission for its intervention.
