The oil-rich Middle East country of Qatar and Katsina State have initiated discussions seeking areas of collaboration between the two governments.
Describing Katsina as already sharing certain cultural affiliations with his country, the Qatari Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Ali Bin Ghanem A-Hajri, said that education and health featured prominently in initial bilateral talks with the Katsina government and other leaders.
The Ambassador spoke at the wake of the grand durbar and cultural displays to welcome him to Katsina.
The highlight of the visit was a ceremony to unveil the naming of a street near the Government House after Qatar.
The Ambassador said, “Katsina is the mother-house for the Hausa culture, language and people and I am happy to be here in the middle of the Hausa heritage.
“I also thank the Governor for naming a street in the state after Qatar.
“We have held discussions and we look forward to the future relationship between Katsina and Qatar in the areas of culture, education and health.”
Also speaking at the ceremony, Governor Umaru Dikko Radda said his administration was committed to exploring opportunities that are beneficial to the state.
Reports say Qatar is the richest Arab country with $71.568 GDP per capita (2024).
