Pyrates Confraternity Charges Govt To Intervene In School Infrastructure Crisis

2 weeks ago 27

ABUJA – In a bid to support access to quality education for underprivileged children, the Abuja Chapter of the National Association of Seadogs, Pyrates Confraternity (Sahara Deck) has stepped in to assist indigent pupils at Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Karu Site, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) by paying their Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) levies, ensuring that they are able to sit for their upcoming examinations.

During a recent visit to the school, the Sahara Deck team observed deep infrastructural decay and a severe lack of basic learning materials, including classroom furniture and an unfurnished library, which make learning conditions highly unconducive.

The school caters mostly to children from low-income backgrounds, many of whom struggle to afford basic fees required for their education.

While Sahara Deck’s intervention focused on clearing the outstanding PTA levies to keep students in school, the organization has pledged to return with support for furniture and infrastructure upgrades to improve the learning environment.

This visit also highlighted the urgent need for government intervention in primary education across Abuja.

The Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), and the Ministry of Education must take the lead in ensuring that no child is left behind due to poor school conditions.

Chike Onyia, Steerer, Sahara Deck, in a statement reiterated that Sahara Deck is calling on the government to: Prioritize the rehabilitation of public primary schools across Abuja, ensuring they meet minimum standards for learning; Provide adequate classroom furniture to replace broken and insufficient desks that force students to learn in discomfort; Equip libraries and learning spaces with the necessary resources to promote literacy and intellectual development; and Develop policies that support indigent pupils, ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent them from completing their education.

While the National Association of Seadogs remains committed to supporting local schools through interventions, it is clear that sustainable change requires government leadership. Education is a fundamental right, and the government must lead the charge in transforming public schools into environments where every child can learn effectively and thrive.
