PSC promotes 3 AIGs, 16 police commissioners

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of three Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police.

The PSC has also announced the promotion of sixteen Deputy Commissioners of Police to the rank of Commissioners of Police.

The newly promoted AIGs are:

– Garba Ahmed, CP Yobe State Command;
– Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo, CP Border Patrol; and
– Salman Garba Dogo, CP Kwara State Command.

PSC Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, who made this known in a statement, listed the 16 newly promoted Deputy Commissioners as:

1. Audu Baba Umaru (promoted and retired);
2. Cyriacus Enechukwu;
3. Gombit Kopshella Bangs;
4. Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo;
5. Mamman Bitrus Giwa;
6. Rosemary Okpoho Akpan;
7. Umar Hassan Kabir;
8. Usman Kanfani Jibrin;
9. Naziru Abdulmajid;
10. Osadolor Olaye;
11. Modi Jonathan Filiya;
12. Sani Omolori;
13. Hassan Gwani Saleh;
14. Hammed Sule;
15. Ayodele Rowland Adeyemi; and
16. Justine Obiora Oranwusi.

Ani, in the statement, said: “The promotions were the highpoints of an extraordinary meeting of the Commission, presided over by Commission Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), and attended by Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, retired Justice of the Supreme Court and Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police; and Chief Onyemuchi Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission.

“The candidates for promotion were subjected to a written examination and oral interview.”

Commission Chairman, DIG Argungu (rtd), used the occasion of the interactive session to warn the officers to stay clear of civil matters such as land disputes, marital issues, debt collection, etc., and allow the courts to adjudicate on such matters.

Argungu, while noting that the Commission will deal decisively with any officer caught engaging in such matters, said the Commission will continue to monitor them and support them to give their best.
