PSC immortalises, names hall after ex-IGP Arase

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has named its Chairman’s Hall at the 6th floor of its Corporate headquarters after the immediate past Chairman of the commission and 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, Iate IGP Solomon Arase (retd.).

A press statement by the PSC Head Press and Public Relations,  Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, Thursday, in Abuja, noted that the final journey for IGP Arase began Wednesday with a Day of Tributes held at the Police Resource Centre Jabi Abuja.

He said while speaking at the Day of Tributes, the Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.) said his predecessor was not only a Police officer of repute, a scholar and a reformer, he was a gentleman  of rare courage and intellect.

Argungu, who was represented by the Director, Human Resource Management Aminu Malumfashi, stated: “We gather with heavy hearts, yet also with profound gratitude, to pay tribute to a man who gave his all in service to his country and to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) our late Chairman, Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase.

“Dr. Arase was not only a police officer of repute, a scholar, and a reformer; he was a gentleman of rare courage and intellect. From his days as IGP to his appointment as Chairman of the PSC, he was relentless in his pursuit of professionalism, discipline, and integrity within the Force.

“At the Commission, his tenure was short, but impactful. He moved our headquarters to its permanent home in Jabi, Abuja. He worked tirelessly to stabilise the Commission, to strengthen its oversight role, and to build bridges of trust between the Police and the public they serve. “His leadership was cerebral, his vision clear, and his style inclusive. He valued dialogue and always sought consensus.”

According to the PSC boss “To us, his colleagues, he was more than a Chairman. He was a mentor, a brother, a guide. His humility disarmed us; his brilliance challenged us; his humanity endeared him to all.

“As we remember him tonight, we are reminded that true greatness is not measured by the length of days but by the depth of impact. Dr. Arase has left behind a legacy of service, of courage, and of excellence.

“On behalf of the Board, Management, and Staff of the PSC, I extend our deepest condolences to his dear wife, children, and family. We share in your grief, and we pray that the Almighty God grants you the strength to bear this great loss.

“Dr. Solomon Ehigiator Arase will be remembered as a shining light in the history of policing in Nigeria and as a patriot who lived for justice, fairness, and peace.”

Ani noted that as part of the funeral arrangements there would be a Requiem Mass at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Maitama Abuja, on Friday, and Laying in State at his Maitama Abuja residence on Saturday before his remains will be airlifted  to Benin Edo state for the continuation of the burial rites.

He added that a strong delegation from the Commission will also be in Edo state for the final burial rites of its former Chairman.

The spokesperson said the remains of the former IGP and PSC chairman would be lowered to mother earth, on Friday, October 3, 2025 in his GRA Benin residence.
