PSC Approves Promotion Of 952 ASPs, Rejects Cases Of Retired, Dead Officers

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of 952 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to the next rank of Deputy Superintendents (DSPs).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations at the commission, it was disclosed that the PSC also declined the promotion of 176 ASPs who were found to have retired from service.

Ani added that the Commission equally rejected the promotion of three other officers who were suspected to have died before the exercise was concluded.

Ani noted that the decisions formed part of the highlights of the first plenary meeting of the 6th Board of the Commission held at its corporate headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.

“The Commission deliberated extensively on the need to ensure only officers who are duly in service benefit from the exercise.

“It is our responsibility to maintain discipline, fairness and integrity in the promotion process,” he stated.

Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), congratulated the newly promoted officers while charging them to remain dedicated to their duties.

“You must imbibe the spirit of nationalism and respect for the laws and regulations of the Police Service.

“The Commission will no longer tolerate diversionary and unauthorized actions by serving officers, especially when there are established channels to ventilate grievances,” Argungu warned.

He further stressed the need for professionalism, saying, “Policing is a sacred duty to the Nigerian people. You are promoted to serve, not to intimidate or exploit the citizens.”

Argungu assured officers that the PSC remains committed to fairness and meritocracy in career advancement.

“We will continue to ensure that your career progression is not hindered or trampled upon. Promotions will be based strictly on performance, character, and discipline, not on favoritism or influence,” he added.
