Producing Olu Maintain’s ‘Yahoozee’ Was An Unforgettable Studio Moment

Veteran music producer Puffy Tee, best known for producing Olu Maintain’s 2007 smash hit Yahoozee, has spoken about the song’s timeless impact, revealing that it still gives him goosebumps years after its release.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, Puffy Tee described how the track’s rhythm and energy continue to resonate with him and fans alike.

“There are a few songs that still give me goosebumps, but one that comes to mind is Yahoozee. There’s something about the way the beat comes together with the vocals, and the way it resonates with people. Whenever I hear it in public, I’m transported back to the studio, working with the artiste, and feeling the energy of the session. It’s a reminder of why I do what I do; to create music that touches people’s lives,” he said.

Reflecting on his early years, the producer noted that childhood memories still shape his creative process today.

“Growing up, I was always fascinated by the way music could evoke emotions and bring people together. One memory that stands out is spending hours in my room, experimenting with the two octaves keyboard my dad gifted me, and creating beats with whatever instruments I could find. This curiosity and love for experimentation have stayed with me to this day, and I think it’s what drives my creative process as a producer. I’m always looking for new sounds, new textures, and new ways to push the boundaries of what’s possible in music,” he recalled.

When asked if he feels undervalued in the industry, Puffy Tee admitted that while producers often remain out of the spotlight, the satisfaction comes from bringing an artiste’s vision to life. “As a producer, I know I’m not always in the spotlight, but that’s okay. My job is to help bring the artiste’s vision to life, and if that means staying behind the scenes, I’m happy to do so. That being said, I do think it’s amazing when fans recognise my work and appreciate the effort that goes into creating a hit song,” he explained.
