A prisoner, Abba Hassan, who was incarcerated at the Maximum Custodial Centre in Potiskum in Yobe State, has escaped from confinement.
Hassan, according to report, was condemned to death by a court.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a public notice issued on Saturday, saying the escape happened on October 31, 2025.
Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said Hassan, who is from Maiduguri in Borno State, was on death row before he fled the prison.
He called on residents of Yobe and nearby states to be on alert and report any information that could help find him.
“People should not try to confront or arrest him on their own. For your safety, report to the nearest police station or correctional centre,” the statement read.
The Command also released an emergency number — 08038452982 — for anyone with useful information.
SP Abdulkarim thanked members of the public for their cooperation and assured that police are working with other security agencies to rearrest the escapee and keep the state safe.
