Premier League Results: Forest Humble Liverpool, Brighton Fight Back Against Brentford

Nottingham Forest delivered the shock of the weekend with a powerful 3-0 win over the reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool, at Anfield.

Murillo set the tone in the 33rd minute when he reacted sharply inside the box after an Elliot Anderson corner, finishing neatly after a short pause for a review. Liverpool never truly recovered from that moment in the Premier League clash.

Seconds after the restart, Forest sliced through again. Nicolo Savona met a clever ball from Neco Williams and sent his strike high into the right side of the net. Morgan Gibbs-White later added a polished left-footed finish in the 79th minute to close out a statement performance.

Forest were ruthless any time they pushed forward, registering seven shots on target from their 13 attempts. Anderson, Igor Jesus and Omari Hutchinson also forced saves as the visitors played with confidence and calm throughout.

Liverpool created the busier stat sheet, but nothing more. Their 19 efforts produced only three attempts on target, coming from Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai.

They also finished with more corners, eight to Forest’s six, yet lacked the touch or precision needed to change the story of the afternoon.

Arne Slot tried to shake things up by introducing Hugo Ekitike, then Federico Chiesa, Andy Robertson and youngster Pearl Ngumoha, but the breakthrough never came. Two late yellow cards summed up an afternoon where little went right.

The victory lifts Forest to 12 points on the Premier League table and gives them a morale-boosting away clean sheet. Liverpool remain on 18 points and have now suffered back-to-back 3-0 league defeats, leaving plenty to sort out in the attacking third.

At the Amex Stadium, Brighton came from behind to claim a dramatic 2-1 win over Brentford. Brentford believed they had taken the lead in the 23rd minute before VAR ruled it out, but they soon found another route when a penalty decision went their way six minutes later. Igor Thiago stepped up and converted coolly.

Brighton reshaped at halftime with the introduction of Lewis Dunk and Maxime De Cuyper, and immediately began to dictate the game. Their pressure paid off in the 71st minute when Danny Welbeck guided home a tidy pass from Georginio Rutter.

Jack Hinshelwood later struck the winner in the 84th minute after timing his run perfectly and finishing with authority.

Late drama continued deep into stoppage time. Brentford were handed a second penalty at 90+4, but Bart Verbruggen produced a decisive save to deny Thiago a second goal. Michael Kayode forced one more effort on target before the final whistle, but Brighton held firm to protect the points.

The hosts finished with the stronger numbers after the break, winning the corner battle 7-4 and embracing the physical edge of the match, collecting four yellow cards. Both of their goals came in the second half, matching their wider trend of late-game scoring this season.

Elsewhere in Saturday’s Premier League fixtures, Naija News reports that Chelsea earned a steady 2-0 win away at Burnley. Bournemouth and West Ham shared the points in a lively 2-2 draw. Crystal Palace claimed a 2-0 victory at Wolves. Fulham edged Sunderland 1-0 in a tight contest.

The late kick-off will see Newcastle host Manchester City in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the weekend.
