Man alleges threat to life over Kwara school certificate saga

By - - [ ]

Kwara State All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq

Adekunle Oluwafemi Abraham, who sued Kwara State governor-elect, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq over the authenticity of his West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate, has alleged that unknown persons were threatening his life.

Speaking yesterday in Ilorin, Abraham said he has been receiving threat text messages, pressure from communit y, religious leaders, as well as calls from friends and relations, urging him to withdraw the case.

Abraham, who said he instituted the case based on his personal conviction to expose illegality in society in line with the anti-corruption posture of the present administration, added that he did not do it in the name of Apado Community in Ilorin East Local Government Area or any political party.

Describing himself as an activist from his school days at the University of Ilorin, Abraham said he was a Students’ Union Secretary and a departmental executive, adding that he would pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

“Instead of being celebrated as a whistle-blower, I’m being castigated by my community. And I don’t see any reason why this action should be treated in isolation because there are other cases in the country, which did not attract much attention.

“Yes, I’m a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but I’m not holding forth for my party or community. Nobody is sponsoring me. And I hope I deserve national honour for my action,” he said.

Abraham, had on March 7, 2019, instituted a court case against Abdulrazaq, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, who emerged winner in the election, over the authenticity of his WAEC certificate.

The case with suit number KWS/73/2019 was assigned to a Kwara State High Court presided over by Justice Adenike Akinpelu, while the court gave the governor-elect 30 days to react to the claim.

But in a swift reaction, his media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye, said: We are not aware of any such pending case nor a court order in Kwara State or anywhere in Nigeria,” describing the case as desperate propaganda of a dying dynasty.

“It is on record that AbdulRazaq submitted his WAEC certificate for the 2011 and 2015 elections. In the two instances, the INEC duly vetted his credentials and found them to be genuine. Nothing has changed,” he said.

Also, the governor-elect’s secondary school mates have condemned the claim that AbdulRasaq dropped out of Government College, Kaduna.

In a statement issued by Kabiru Yaro, Abdulmalik Giwa and Sanusi Ramallam, who are members of Government College Kaduna Old Boys Association (GCKOBA), they said the claim was nothing but a “smear campaign.”
