The Rotary Club of Ikeja District (9110) has equipped some Lagos state schools with facilities to aid learning.
Speaking at a parley with journalists, the president, Rotary Club of Ikeja, Olumuyiwa Fagbola said between 2019 and now, the club has equipped the physics laboratory at Ojota Grammar School, donated Braille machines to Pacelli School for the blind and library to Wasimi Community High School in Maryland.
Fagbola further mentioned that the club also renovated block of classrooms at Shogunle Primary School, provided 10 computer sets for Ikeja Senior High School and donated three blocks of classrooms to Ikeja Junior High School.
“Scholarships were also awarded to University of Ibadan (UI) students studying peace and conflict studies,” he said.
Fagbola reminded that the country is going through a tough time and the poor are always at the receiving end.
He enjoined other groups to emulate Rotary by creating a more comfortable environment for students to learn.
“The establishment of Rotary stemmed from the urge to serve, give back to the society and put a smile on the faces of the needy,” he noted.
He listed the areas of focus for the club as education and literacy; disease prevention and treatment; water and sanitation; economic and community development; maternal and childcare; as well as peace and conflict resolution.
He called for more membership, stating “ with increased membership, we shall elevate our service level to greater heights.”
