US President Donald Trump has vowed to return to business, saying the country will not continue to be in a lockdown.
Trump wants to roll back measures intended to keep the Coronavirus pandemic in check and reopen the US for business.
The lockdowns have brought the US and its $20-trillion economy, to a virtual standstill during the past several days and Trump said this will not continue.
“America will, again, and soon, be open for business,” Trump said during his daily briefing on Coronavirus.
“Very soon. A lot sooner than three or four months that somebody was suggesting. Lot sooner. We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem itself.”
In a town hall broadcast on Fox News on Tuesday, the President said he hoped to have the country “opened up and raring to go by Easter”, which is April 12.
“Our people want to return to work. They will practice Social Distancing and all else, and Seniors will be watched over protectively & lovingly.
“We can do two things together. THE CURE CANNOT BE WORSE (by far) THAN THE PROBLEM! Congress MUST ACT NOW. We will come back strong!”
Health experts and emergency management officials had advised that unless Americans continue to stay home from work and isolating themselves, the number of infections will overwhelm the healthcare system and lead to many more deaths.
The World Health Organisation, WHO, yesterday warned that the US could become the epicenter of the pandemic if it goes against the measuresSource:
