My Family Cinema (MFC), a popular video streaming platform known for piracy, has shut down after facing copyright issues. The platform’s forced exit is linked to a recent crackdown on piracy networks in Argentina.
According to reports, My Family Cinema’s users in international countries such as Australia and Canada started experiencing issues accessing the platform two months ago. Recently, various users started receiving messages where the company expressed the decision to permanently shut down owing to copyright issues.
“Due to copyright issues, this brand must permanently end its service. We sincerely thank you for your trust and support over the years,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, My Family Cinema’s exit has been linked to a recent crackdown on piracy platforms by Argentine authorities.
In September, the Argentine judiciary, in collaboration with La Liga, Alianza, Nagravision, and Telecom Argentina. Additionally, the Motion Picture Association (MPA) created a force to dismantle the criminal network of digital piracy in Latin America. The network has about 8 million paying users worldwide and a potential reach of over 20 million clients.

The crackdown uncovered a network of illegal IPTV services distributing audiovisual content fraudulently under widely recognised brands in the pirate market. The operation dismantled My Family Cinema, which reportedly operates from the United States.
Others are TV Express, Eppi Cinema, Weiv TV, Red Play, Duna TV, Boto TV, Break TV, VTV, Blue TV, Super TV Premium, HOT and ONpix. It also includes PLUSTV, Mix, Venga TV, ALA TV, Pulse TV, Football Zone, Nossa TV, MegaTV+, Cineduo, Megamax+, GTV, Nebuplus, and Onda TV, among others.
“The scale of this network demonstrates that audiovisual fraud is a transnational organised crime issue. From La Liga, we will continue working alongside authorities, Alianza, and our partners to protect the industry, the clubs, and, above all, the fans,” said Javier Tebas, president of La Liga.

While MFC promotes itself as a personal media player, the platform is known for its cloud link feature, which allows users to upload and share their libraries of movies and series with others on the internet.
Its collection includes content available exclusively on platforms like DStv, Amazon Prime Video, Netflix and Showmax.

My Family Cinema’s shutdown comes after a recent crackdown on Streameast, another piracy platform. The world’s biggest platform for live sports streaming shut down after a clampdown, orchestrated by the Egyptian police and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE).
These developments marked a major win in the fight against digital piracy.
