The Edo State Police Command has trained a total of 160 personnel to enhance their operational capabilities in tackling crime in the state.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the command, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, disclosed this on Sunday during the closing ceremony of the training, stating that two batches had been trained so far.

In a statement made available to journalists in Benin City on behalf of the command, the Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, said the training was part of the commissioner’s commitment to ridding the state of crime.

The police commissioner stated that the personnel were trained in VIP escort, ambush and counter-ambush, musketry, combat craft, tactical retrogression movement, search and rescue, among other areas.

The statement read in part: “In her quest to rid the state of crime, the Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, directed the immediate retraining of personnel to enhance their operational capabilities in tackling the challenges ahead.

“A total of one hundred and sixty personnel have so far been retrained in two batches, covering the following areas: VIP escort, ambush and counter-ambush, musketry, combat craft, tactical retrogression movement, search and rescue, among others.”

The commissioner, however, charged the personnel to remain vigilant and courageous in responding swiftly to security breaches while upholding high professional standards, free from harassment, intimidation, and extortion.

She also reassured all indigenes and residents of the state of the command’s readiness to deliver improved, effective, and efficient service under her watch.
