“The Nigeria Police Force, in its sustained efforts to combat crimes, has successfully rescued a victim of human trafficking, a 24-year-old Ghanaian national, and arrested five suspects, including both Ghanaian and Nigerian nationals, in a well-coordinated operation by operatives of INTERPOL Annex, FCID Alagbon, Lagos, in Ofada, Ogun State,” the statement partly read.

Hundeyin said that preliminary investigations revealed the victim and his father were allegedly trafficked into Nigeria in July 2025 by Hassana Abban, a 25-year-old Ghanaian woman living in Ofada, who claimed she was assisting them to travel to Canada.

“The suspect, investigations reveal, obtained forty thousand (40,000) Cedis, approximately four million, nine hundred and sixty thousand (N4,960,000) Naira, for the supposed travel arrangements,” Hundeyin revealed.

The Force PPRO also revealed that upon entering Nigeria, the victim and his father had their passports and phones seized and were forced to engage in fraudulent online trading activities.

“Following the assistance request from Interpol Accra, a special team of police operatives from INTERPOL Annex, FCID Alagbon, Lagos investigated the victims’ location, leading to their rescue on 16th September 2025 in Ogun State.

“The operation also resulted in the arrest of the principal suspect, Hassana Abban, alongside four accomplices,” the statement continued.

Hundeyin identified the accomplices as Odubuasi David, a Nigerian; and three Ghanaians: Yahaya Salifu, Sherifa Haruna, and Ebenezer Ofosu.

“All five suspects are currently in custody and further investigations are ongoing.

“The rescued victims have since been reunited with their family back in Ghana,” the statement added.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the officers for their professionalism, emphasizing the force’s dedication to regional collaboration in fighting human trafficking and transnational crimes.

He assured the public and international partners that no cross-border criminal syndicate will evade justice.
