Ten suspects have been arrested over an alleged plot to assassinate the traditional ruler of Igoba community in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Adinlewa John.

The incident occurred on Saturday, when armed attackers stormed the community around 11:30 a.m., wielding guns, knives, machetes, charms, and other dangerous weapons.

The attackers first assaulted a resident, Mrs. Ogunoye Oluomo, leaving her severely injured before proceeding to the palace of the monarch, where they allegedly attempted to take his life.

Confirming the development, Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said a tactical team was immediately deployed after the command received information about the attack.

“Ten suspects were arrested at the scene and dangerous items recovered, including two locally fabricated pistols, a single-barrelled gun, live ammunition, charms, and other weapons,” he stated.

Lawal added that the suspects have confessed to their roles in the attempted murder and would be charged to court after investigations.

He assured residents that security has been reinforced in Igoba to prevent further attacks.

“Ondo State will not be allowed to degenerate into a haven for criminals.

“Anyone daring the resolve of security agencies will face the full weight of the law,” the police commissioner warned.
