At least ten people lost their lives and ten others sustained injuries in two separate accidents along the Ozalla/4-Corner stretch of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the incidents in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, noting that the crashes occurred hours apart but claimed multiple lives.
According to the statement, the first accident happened around 9 a.m. when a Howo truck loaded with bags of cement and marked Visco Investment Global collided with a Toyota Corolla attempting to overtake another vehicle.

A Foton bus and a Daihatsu Hijet mini bus, both allegedly driving against traffic, were also involved in the crash. The impact caused the truck’s head and the Toyota Corolla to burst into flames, killing five occupants of the car instantly, while a passenger in the mini bus was also confirmed dead by doctors.
A second fatal collision occurred at about 3 p.m. on the same road. This involved a Sino truck, also carrying cement, which reportedly drove one-way from Garriki, Enugu, towards Nenwe in Aninri Local Government Area, before ramming into a tricycle. Four occupants of the tricycle were rushed to the hospital but later confirmed dead.
Police said ten other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in both incidents and are currently receiving treatment.
Reacting to the tragedies, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, expressed grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the families of the victims, directing the State Motor Traffic Department to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the crashes.
Describing the accidents as avoidable, CP Giwa cautioned motorists against reckless driving, particularly during the Ember Months when road accidents tend to increase. He reminded drivers that “no journey is worth the loss of lives” and urged strict adherence to traffic rules and safe driving practices.
Some platforms had earlier linked the accident to a truck belonging to Dangote Group, but the company denied this in a statement on Wednesday.
