Police nab suspected telecom mast thief, impound truck in Uyo 


Akwa Ibom state Police Command has arrested one suspected telecom mast thief identified as  Amisu Bala and impounded Izuzu truck used in conveying the stolen pieces of the mast in Uyo metropolis. 

A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO)  for Akwa Ibom DSP Timfon John and made available to Journalists in Uyo at the weekend stated that the suspect was arrested along Obong Sampson Udo Idiong drive in Uyo .

The statement reads in parts :

“On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at approximately 10:40 AM, a patrol team successfully apprehended a suspect and recovered a stolen vandalized telecommunications mast.

“Based on actionable intelligence, Operatives were dispatched to Obong Sampson Idiong Drive in Uyo, where a group of individuals were reportedly loading a recently vandalized telecom mast into a truck”.

John said some members of the gang fled the scene when they sighted police coming after them and abandoned an Izuzu truck used in loading the stolen mast which was vandalized and cut to pieces.

 “Upon the arrival of the patrol team, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning a green Isuzu truck with registration number AFG 517 XA.”

She said the Operatives pursued the suspects and caught one of them while others fled .

“Operatives pursued the fleeing individuals, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Amisu Bala, a 30-year-old male.

“He is currently in custody and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.”

“The recovered truck and the stolen telecom mast are now in police custody.”

John disclosed that investigation was ongoing while efforts are made to arrest the fleeing gang members .

“An investigation is underway to uncover all the facts surrounding the crime, and efforts are being made to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate.” Sh said
