The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 55-year-old man, Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon”, over two violent incidents on Lagos Island involving assault and murder.
In a statement issued on Friday, September 19, by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babasayi B. Oluseyi, the Command explained that the suspect is currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, for discreet investigation.
According to the statement, the first incident occurred on September 17, 2025, around 3:00 p.m., when Oladiti allegedly attacked a dispatch rider with a helmet and his fists, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

“The victim was rushed to hospital, placed on oxygen, and is currently receiving medical treatment,” it noted.
The following day, September 18, another complaint linked the suspect to an earlier altercation on August 28, during which he allegedly struck a man on the head and face with a metallic ring. Despite medical intervention, the victim was confirmed dead by a doctor on September 17, and the body was taken to the mortuary for autopsy.
The man’s death sparked protests at Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island, where sympathizers stormed the suspect’s office, set two of his motorcycles ablaze, and disrupted peace in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a combined team of mobile police, conventional officers, and tactical squads to the scene.
“He swiftly restored calm, prevented further breakdown of law and order, and assured residents that the suspect is in custody and will be promptly prosecuted after investigations are concluded,” the statement said.
Reassuring the public, the Command added: “The Lagos State Police Command wishes to assure members of the public that justice will be diligently pursued in all the cases against the suspect.”
CP Jimoh also urged residents not to take the law into their own hands.
He said: “We appeal to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and not to take the law into their own hands. We enjoin them to cooperate fully with the police in the ongoing investigations.”
