Police nab 3 suspected vandals, smash robbery gang

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three suspected vandals responsible for the regular destruction and theft of property owned by the state water company.

A statement signed by the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, and made available to journalists in Uyo, stated that the suspects were arrested through an investigation based on credible information.

The statement reads in part: “On August 18, operatives responded to a tip regarding the theft of armoured cables from the water company’s property on Brooks Street in Uyo.

“The police team quickly mobilised, leading to the apprehension of two suspects at the scene: Itoro Moses David and Patrick Effiom.”

John disclosed that the first two suspects were arrested and later provided information that led to the arrest of the third suspect.

“Following their arrest, the suspects confessed to the crime and provided information that led to the subsequent arrest of a third individual on August 21.

“The third suspect, identified as Edidiong Edet Edet, is believed to be a notorious member of the criminal gang.”

John said armoured cables were recovered from the suspects, and the investigation continues.

“The police are continuing their investigation, and efforts are currently underway to arrest more individuals involved in the syndicate.

“The suspects will be arraigned in court as soon as the investigation is complete,” she said.
