Police Investigate After Man Loses Life In Ado-Ekiti Over Money Dispute


The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a man following the death of another during a violent altercation over N4,000 in Ado-Ekiti.

The incident occurred on Friday,  at Uso community along the Ado-Afao Road in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, and involved two men identified as Michael and John Dindul Selbol.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the disagreement escalated into a heated fight around 10:30 p.m., during which both men sustained severe injuries.

Michael was rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado-Ekiti, where doctors confirmed him dead.

His body has been deposited in the hospital morgue for autopsy, and police took photographs of the crime scene for investigation.

Selbol, who was injured during the confrontation, is currently receiving treatment under police custody.

The Ekiti Police Command said on Saturday, “Investigations into the circumstances leading to the death are ongoing, and the suspect has been apprehended to face appropriate legal action.”

A police spokesperson added, “We urge residents to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. Violence over minor disputes cannot be tolerated in our communities.”

An eyewitness also stated, “The fight started over money, and it escalated so fast. It’s shocking that something so small could end in death.”

Residents of Uso community expressed concern, with one local leader saying, “We are saddened by the incident and call on youths to resolve conflicts peacefully. Such violence brings fear to our neighborhood.”
