The Nigeria Police has identified some officers who were seen in one of its vehicles counting money allegedly extorted from citizens.
This was contained in a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) via the official handle of the Police Complaint Unit, @PoliceNG_CRU.
The development comes after a viral video surfaced online showing the said officers inside a police vehicle, openly counting money. The clip quickly gained widespread attention, drawing public criticism.
Hours later, the Nigeria Police confirmed that the officers had been identified and disciplinary measures were immediately taken against them.
The statement read: “UPDATE: The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the CP today. The four personnel, two of them senior officers, have been queried, while the two inspectors have been detained and are awaiting an orderly room trial.”
As the post circulated online, many Nigerians stormed the comment section to share their thoughts and reactions.
See some reactions below:
@kadmaye: “See them, they are just after money and corruption, I wonder when these things would end in Nigeria.”
@_DANMEEK_: “Yes, some officers misbehave, but Nigs must prioritize better pay for our security forces. A 500k minimum salary is payable. Borrow if needed. In Lagos, areas like Falomo, police chase okada riders but ride okadas themselves, jokingly we call them NPF Okada Assoc. Falomo branch.”
@AbubakarMundir: “Why are the officers not subject to overly room trial ? Does this mean that @PoliceNG practices the “Animal Farm justice system” where some are more equal than others?”
@Sheggzyunited: “Tomorrow it will another story. Why can’t the police be reformed at once, but what we expect when your PROs would defend your officers harassing people recording their actions. Why can’t police have bodycam? Maybe it will reduce their misconducts a bit.”
@BBTORSO1: “This is what 99% of the street do daily to try to increase their salary and give them some weekly bonuses if u want this to reduce.”
@Sethmelon: “I think police academy should be police university, and mandatory law courses on civil matters for two years, I have a lot to write ✍️ but i remember I dont have blue tic.”
@Tomiwaak: “Once corruption from @poli can eradicated to barest minimum of 30%, that day Nigeria will step into the right direction of being great and respected among committee of great people and nations.”
@GREGORYONYEKA: “This one na just for the gram! Nothing Will happen after this. They will be back to business as usual.”
@isaaczeto: “They’re being summoned and discipline for being careless with the activities of the day. The money is from bottom to top.”
@officialinicpu: “Extortion that happens in front of the station in the evening, who will be held responsible?”
@OGUNSOLAPopoola: “Kudos to the police hierarchy for the efforts already made. Yet, what lasting solutions can address the recurring misconduct and lawlessness among our police officers? Without genuine personal transformation, no real progress can be achieved.”
