2 hours ago 29

Detectives from the Lagos State Police Command have commenced a manhunt for the owner of an apartment in the Bariga area of the state where a rifle, pistol and some ammunition were recovered.

The police said the owner, who sensed that detectives had turned the heat on him, fled before their arrival.

Our correspondent gathered that the yet-to-be identified owner of the premises previously resisted allowing the police entry into his property.

It was also learnt that the owner requested for a search warrant before he would allow any detective into his property.

A police source at the command headquarters, said the owner of the apartment was a highly placed person in society, hence his insistence on a search warrant.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, saying efforts are on to arrest the owner of the premises.

Hundeyin, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), said on February 21, at about 12.23pm, police officers from the command, while on execution of a court order, in conjunction with a court sheriff attached to the Lagos High Court, Igbosere, to force open a premises in Bariga, recovered a revolver pistol with breech number, one assault rifle with breech number and one live ammunition.

“The guns and ammunition were concealed in a polythene bag in the aforementioned premises. The exhibits have been recovered to the station’s armoury and registered. Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing,” he added.
